In drilling projects, mud is used to balance formation pressure, transmit power, remove cuttings and carry them to the surface, and stabilize the wall of the well through physical and chemical means.
Drilling directional wells in over-compacted or under-compacted formations, or easily dispersed and expansive formations, becomes challenging, and special measures are required to ensure that the mud performance can meet the special needs of the site. At the same time, in order to enable the mud to be reused, the drilling fluid mud must not be excessively diluted, and the cuttings must be removed from the drilling fluid. Stirring mud is very important for drilling fluid mud circulation system. In addition to stirring mud, mixing, shearing, ingredients and chemical additives are also very important for mud. Proper size and installation of the mud agitator allows additives and chemicals to mix the mud at maximum speed.
The function of the surface drilling fluid mud system is to allow the mud to be maintained for treatment before being pumped into the wellbore. This can be achieved by effectively using solids control equipment to remove unwanted solid phases, while recycling as much drilling fluid mud as possible. After the solid phase is removed, maintenance work such as fast and complete mixing of chemical additives and drilling fluid mud materials is followed. Sufficient stirring of the mud agitator is necessary for solid phase removal and mud maintenance work. Most muds must use a mud agitator to suspend the solid phase in the ground mud tank to keep the mud composition uniform. There are two types of equipment that can achieve this: mud agitators and mud guns. Both are widely used.
The mud's constituent materials, such as bentonite, barium sulfate (barite), plugging materials, polymers, and chlorides, must be moistened before being thoroughly dispersed in the system. It is necessary to properly add these materials to the drilling fluid mud. It can improve drilling efficiency and reduce the amount of additives required. In order to obtain the most advantages of drilling fluid mud, the correct addition on the surface will help improve their effectiveness in the wellbore. Some mixing, adding, hydrating, shearing, mixing drilling fluid mud additives, and improving the efficiency of the additives must use mud mixers.
As mentioned earlier, the mud agitator is used to suspend solid particles, fully mix drilling fluid mud materials, and maintain the drilling fluid mud in a homogeneous mixture state through the ground system. To meet these requirements, the mud agitator needs to produce an upward speed in the drilling fluid mud tank, and this speed is greater than the sedimentation speed of suspended solid particles. This requires sufficient shear and stirring to dissolve, wet, and disperse the drilling fluid additives. The mixing ability of the drilling fluid helps maintain the viscosity of the drilling fluid.
